A New Year of Self-Care
Happy New Year from Hippie Momma
This year, Hippie Momma is focusing on self-care. Each month she will highlight a word or thought that pertains to self-care, as well as introducing you to a product or ingredient. Her hope is that by the end of the year, everyone will all be taking care of themselves a little bit better, loving themselves a little bit more, and discovering how Hippie Momma can be a part of personal self-care.
Hippie Momma will also have “Open Shop” one Saturday a month. Stop by to shop for self-care products, enjoy a warm beverage and talk about this months word. This month’s Open Shop will be January 18th from 11 am to 1 pm.
This month’s word is WHOLENESS; being complete in our mind, body, spirit and relationships; living harmoniously.
Showing ourselves grace and acceptance for where we are in life at this moment while seeking personal growth for self is essentially living in WHOLENESS. This is easier said than done. In a world where media reminds us that we are not perfect, and that there is a pill, injection or quick fix for anything that makes us feel less than perfect, it can be hard to see through and truly love ourselves for the beautiful beings that we are. When I feel overwhelmed by this, I simply tune out; just turn off the TV, take a social media break, and think about 10 things that I love about myself and that I bring to the world to make it better (i.e., I love fiercely, I’m a great cook and I make a rocking body butter!).
There is also room to grow into a life of WHOLENESS through intentional living. Daily meditation is an excellent way to start the day. I have done this for 20 years, and during my meditations, I always give thanks, remember others, and set my intention for the day. This mentally and spiritually helps me to remember that everyday is a fresh start. This may seem like a challenge, but don’t overthink meditation! You can start but just sitting quietly for a few moments and trying to clear your mind. It will happen with practice!
We will also be confronting our struggles with a word or term I introduce. My struggles with living in WHOLENESS are my physical being. I have moderate Rheumatoid Arthritis as well as severe Osteoarthritis throughout my body that causes me excruciating pain every day. Last year I had two shoulder surgeries that has left me with very limited movement in my right shoulder. I struggle with this because I am not someone who sits and not being able to move the way that I would like to is both exhausting and depressing. This is causing me to not feel whole. Self-care for me means acceptance of my physical limitations and doing what I can to be healthier through movement and diet.
What does WHOLENESS mean to you? What will you do to feel more whole this year?
